Understanding your options and legal circumstances is important, we make sure the process is clearly communicated along with your options and outcomes to limit any misunderstandings.

Family Mediation
Whilst some divorces are civil, others can result in a refusal to communicate, making it extremely difficult to compromise on financial matters, property division, and arrangements for children. Family mediation provides a constructive route to address these disputes.
Our family mediation services bring both parties together with a trained mediator, who facilitates open and honest discussions during a divorce or separation. Creating an environment that is supportive encourages productive conversations and better-informed decisions as a result. Once an agreement has been reached through mediation, they can be formalised into a legally enforceable document.
Mediation offers an effective alternative to Court proceedings, which helps reduce the stress and time involved. Not only is it the more cost-efficient option, it also helps former partners establish healthier relationships for themselves and their children.

Prenuptial & Postnuptial Agreements
Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements are financial arrangements that set out what will happen to your assets or finances in the event of a future divorce or separation. We know it might feel unnatural and awkward to discuss the logistics of breaking up with your partner, but it’s important to safeguard your assets and it is good to harbour open and honest discussions around finances and the future, this can make things much easier and less costly if the worse was to happen.
Prenuptial agreements are arranged prior to the marriage, whereas postnuptial agreements are established after. Despite the difference in timings, both types of agreement provide clarity and reassurance that the assets you bring into a relationship remain yours, should you decide to part ways.
Courts are progressively using these agreements as a reference point for divorce cases, even though neither are legally binding in England and Wales yet. Having the backing of a well-prepared agreement, one that has been drafted with legal support from both parties, makes for a much smoother separation in terms of assets.
Our family law solicitors in Cambridge are highly experienced in crafting and supporting the formation of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Our main service page covers these agreements in greater detail if you’d like to learn more. Or, you can book in for a consultation with one of family law specialists.

Any discussions had will be handled with the utmost privacy and sensitivity, so please get in touch with our Cambridge office if you know your situation needs professional guidance.
