Caring Buckles Solicitors staff have been part of a volunteering initiative to give young people in Cambridgeshire a ‘festival experience’.
The leading law firm has chosen EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices) as its nominated charity for the year, and has so far raised over £3,500 through a variety of individual and team initiatives.
Buckles’ latest involvement saw a team visit the EACH hospice in Milton, near Cambridge, as part of the company’s ‘give a day’ policy to allow staff to spend up to one day a year volunteering for local charities.
Following on from previous group’s gardening work in the grounds of the hospice, this group were asked to help set up for the charity’s ‘EACHfest’ – a mini festival for their young people aged between 11 and 19, all of whom are unlikely to ever get the chance to go to a real festival.
The event was open to youngsters from the Milton hospice, and organisers also invited festival-goers from the charity’s two other hospices in Quidenham in Norfolk and Ipswich.
They were able to experience the festival-vibe in a blacked out room with live recordings from this year’s Reading, Leeds and Glastonbury festivals.
There was also an African drumming tent and various other creative activities for the young people to get involved in with, as well as giving them a chance to tuck into a BBQ lunch.
The volunteers were tasked with setting up gazebos and tents and hanging lots of bunting.
Katharine Holliday, Buckles employment solicitor, instrumental in setting up the volunteering days, said: “It was great to meet the staff and volunteers at EACH and see the great work they do with the children and young people they support.
“We all enjoyed helping to set up for their ‘EACHfest’ event and we know that the young adults will treasure their memories from such a unique day. We got the chance to see for ourselves how EACH will be putting the money we raise to good use.”
EACH’s Lucy Brumpton, EACH Care Manager, said: “EACHfest is something that the young people we work with suggested and it was great to see it all come together.
“The team of volunteers from Buckles supported us with setting up the event and preparing for their arrival – which was such a great help! We welcome volunteers from our corporate supporters so they can see the work we do, and how their donations are spent.”
