Marché International des Professionnels d’Immobilier, or as it is better known MIPIM, has come to be recognised as the premier real estate event in the world, since it first opened its doors to a global audience in 1990.
Each year in March, the most influential individuals, visionaries, dealmakers and commentators from all sectors of the international property industry, gather in Cannes in the south of France for four days of networking, presentations and conversations.
The event, which runs from 14-17 March 2023, has long since lost its early junket tag and is now a serious, fast-paced, exhausting experience for those brave enough to attend.
Reflecting the growing importance of real estate to our business, Buckles is sending a small team to ensure we engage with people that will help our business take its next important steps as we transform our offering in the year ahead.
The numbers are impressive
At the time of writing, 21,000 participants are already registered to attend, with most likely to visit the Palais des Festivals on the seafront, where the expansive exhibition space, will play host to more than 350 stands and 2,400 exhibitors.
It is also here that the brand new ‘Road to Zero’ showcase will promote businesses that offer services to help the real estate industry achieve net zero with a range of new technologies.
More than 100 countries will be represented and all will no doubt push their inward investment messages to an engaged and interested audience. Amongst the exhibitors, there will also be major global cities, such as London and Paris, highlighting similar master-planning messages, as they seek the investors needed to turn visions into realities.
The conference event programme offers a lot of great talks and actually starts on 13 March, a day ahead of the official event start with a number of presentations on the subject of co-living – typically defined as a modern form of housing where residents share living space and a set of interests, values, and/or intentions.
There is no let-up in the quality of the presentations and insights offered throughout the four days at MIPIM. Browsing the agenda ahead of time to make the most of your time, makes sense, given the event will fly by and arranging lots of short meetings is the order of the day(s).
Given the urgent need for change, sustainability is a major theme of most of the keynote presentations, ranging from, ‘What cities of the future will look like’ to ‘Property’s responsibility on sustainability’.
Think big and aim high
The Buckles team to be part of the expected 30,000 plus delegates will include our CEO Duncan Jackson, Jon Preston our Client Services Director and MIPIM regular, Terry Dickson and Chris Mundell, both partners in our Real Estate team.
The key to making MIPIM a success for our business, is good planning, well in advance of our arrival. Which is why our team have already arranged many meetings over the 4 days, starting with a few around the breakfast table, casual catch-ups over coffee, lunch dates and finally some over dinner.
We also have the organised events to fit in, including a visit no doubt to the West Midlands pavilion, where their message, ‘One region, many worlds’, will be shouted loud and clear to an international audience of investors and key stakeholders.
Given our plans for the growth of Buckles in 2023, it’s important for us to be mixing and meeting with the people that can make a material difference to the success of our plans, which makes this an important 4 days in our history.
We understand the future of our business and the sector in general will require law firms to provide a focussed range of services, from more offices local to the markets in which growth can be planned; MIPIM is a great place to meet those who share our mindset.
And it’s not just the meetings we make in Cannes, but those we will arrange when we arrive back in the UK that make the experience important. Diaries full of follow-up meetings with investors, developers, landlords and other property professionals from across the world, will make the lack of sleep worthwhile.
Whilst we are fully aware the effort we expend this March, might not pay off for months or perhaps even years, one of the most important aspects of our trip to MIPIM will be increased visibility for the Buckles brand, which will help demonstrate our ambition to grow.
Our team is not only looking forward to understanding more about the many exciting real estate projects on show at MIPIM 2023, but finding new routes to grow our business, so if you would like to explore mutual opportunities, please get in touch to find time to catch up and share some well-earned refreshment.
