The Organic Law 1/2025, of 2 January, on measures regarding the efficiency of the Public Justice Service, puts an end to the golden visa on 3 April 2025.
The golden visa, according to Law 14/2013, of 27 September, on support for entrepreneurs and their internationalisation, offers a residence visa to foreign citizens who make significant capital investments in Spain, with the aim of promoting investment in strategic sectors and contributing to economic development.
The organic law, in its twenty-first final provision, puts an end to this instrument by adopting the following measures:
- It renders void the following provisions of Law 14/2013: Articles 63, 64, 65, 66 and 67 of the Law.
2. It introduces two transitional provisions in Law 14/2013 (first and second) to regulate the situation of:
Applications submitted before 3 April 2025, indicating that the corresponding visa or authorisation may be received in accordance with the regulations in force on the date of submission of the application.
Renewals of visas and authorisations for investors for the acquisition of real estate, indicating that those valid on 3 April 2025 will remain valid for the period for which they were issued and that renewal applications will be processed and decided in accordance with the regulations in force on the date of granting of the initial authorisation.

Benefits of the Golden Visa
- Tax advantages: Golden Visas do not make you a taxpayer in Spain, unlike other visas in Spain. This is a unique advantage exclusive to Golden Visas. No other visa in Spain offers this feature. It is particularly attractive to wealthy investors who do not wish to pay taxes in Spain. However, if you spend more than 180 days in Spain each year, you will be considered a tax resident.
- The visa overrides the 90/ 180 day limit set by the EU for Schengen: It has clear rules: Initially valid for 3 years, and then renewable every 5 years. No minimum stay is required, unlike other visas.
- Acceleration: Gold Visa applications are fast-tracked, giving them priority over other visa applications that take months to process. The resolution of Golden Visas takes 3-4 weeks.
- Family Inclusion: Family members are included as dependants.
