About

I joined Buckles as a partner in our Corporate & Commercial team in April 2018. I completed my legal training with a City firm before moving to a Cambridge-based law firm in 1994, where I later became a partner.

I have a broad experience in company and commercial law, assisting clients in managing their legal affairs from the inception of the business (including advising on private/private equity investments and shareholders agreements) through to its eventual sale. I’ve acted on numerous private company acquisitions, including in the private education sector, negotiating contracts and helping clients minimise acquisition risk through the due diligence process. I have advised on joint ventures, particularly in the field of property development and intellectual property development.

Additionally, I’ve dealt extensively with shareholders and partnership disputes, covering both contentious and non-contentious aspects. I have a special interest in Intellectual Property matters, including trade mark registration, intellectual property licensing (including software licensing), copyright and designs.

Having previously been a business owner, I recognise the importance of giving the best practical and commercial advice, based on a solid understanding of the underlying legal principles, to achieve the best outcomes for my clients. I develop long-lasting, meaningful client relationships and achieve favourable results through an honest and tenacious approach.

I’m a member of the Law Society and the Society for Computers and Law. I also have a good working knowledge of Spanish, French and German.

I am an active member of the Hitchin Nomads Cycling Club and regularly participate in time trial events. My cocker spaniel Alfie also helps keep me fit.

We have been working with Stephen Oliver for many years. He is a thoughtful, caring and knowledgeable solicitor, who always works around our long work hours and meets very tight schedules. I also consider him to…
