The Domestic Abuse Bill has completed its Second Reading in the House of Commons, against a backdrop of a marked increase in domestic violence as a result of the current lockdown. The Bill now proceeds to Committee Stage.
Amongst other things, the Domestic Abuse Bill contains provision to amend Part 4 of the Housing Act 1985, to provide that where a Local Authority are rehousing a victim of domestic violence who previously held a secure tenancy, or an assured tenancy from a Registered Provider of social housing, the Local Authority cannot offer a fixed term “flexible” tenancy, but must offer a fully secure tenancy agreement.
