The government has announced that there will be a consultation on ending Section 21 notices. If the plans are accepted, private landlords will no longer be able to evict tenants at short notice without good reason.

At the moment, it is only a consultation process and, no doubt, landlords and agents will be hoping that it goes no further. The announcement also mentioned that Section 8 will need to be amended to allow for possession where the landlord wishes to sell or move back in to a property.

This announcement goes hand in hand with the promised reforms of the Court system and the possible development of a dedicated Housing Court.

As yet, we do not know the exact timing of the consultation but indications are that it will be released shortly. We would urge you all to keep an eye on announcements for when it is due to take place.
