The window for the opening round of applications for Landscape Recovery projects is set to close on 24 May 2022. Launched by the government back in February of this year, the scheme encourages farmers and land managers to apply more innovative methods and approaches to help protect the environmental and climate when producing goods.
The Landscape Recovery scheme will help fund long-term large-scale projects in England and sit alongside the two existing environmental land management schemes – the Sustainable Farming Incentive and Local Nature Recovery.
Project proposals submitted in the first round should focus on goals such as the recovery of threatened native species and the increase of species abundance, the restoration and improvement of habitats and rivers, and adaptation to climate change. Additional environmental benefits, such as contributing to net zero, should also feature in applications.
All land managers and land owners can apply and applications will be assessed against the given first round selection criteria. If successful, applicants may receive up to two years funding to support project delivery and assistance with securing private funding for long term delivery. Those selected will also be invited to negotiate a Landscape Recovery implementation agreement with Defra.
