Buckles Law has strengthened its International team with two strategic senior appointments, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to cross-border legal services as demand for international expertise continues to grow.
Senior Associate Léa Maynard returns to Buckles to head the French Law team. A French national and bilingual in English, she specialises in French estate administration matters with cross-border elements and supports the wider team on complex international private client matters.
Maynard said of her move: “It is exciting to re-join Buckles at this point in my career, as the firm invests in its International team. We’re seeing a significant increase in cross-border estate matters, with many UK nationals dealing with probate that involves French property and discovering that English Wills don’t always work as expected under French law.
“More people are splitting their time between the UK and France, which creates its own estate planning challenges. Having expertise in both jurisdictions is essential to help clients navigate these complexities and Buckles offers the opportunity to put my experience to good use.”
Also joining the International team as Spanish Abogado is Pilar Cerrutti, who provides expertise encompassing real estate, corporate and probate work, with particular strength in advising clients on Spanish property law, inheritance matters and international estate planning.
Cerrutti commented: “Spanish inheritance law can be surprisingly complex, particularly because tax treatment varies significantly by region. We’re also seeing growing demand from UK nationals with Spanish property who want to ensure their assets pass to their intended beneficiaries.
“Choosing Buckles for the next step in my career was easy, given the firm’s growing reputation in International law, which gives me the opportunity to be part of a team being developed for the expected increase in cross-border private client work in the years ahead.”
Duncan Jackson, CEO of Buckles Law, said: “International law has always been a significant part of Buckles’ offering and we are seeing substantial growth in cross-border work, particularly in probate and estate administration matters involving foreign jurisdictions.
“Clients holding assets across multiple countries require sophisticated advice on the interaction between different legal systems and these appointments demonstrate our commitment to supporting our clients and helping them realise the outcomes they hope to achieve.
“Léa and Pilar bring exceptional expertise and deep knowledge of their respective jurisdictions that will enhance our ability to deliver comprehensive cross-border legal services, strengthening this crucial area of our practice to ensure we can meet the evolving needs of our clients with international interests.”
