Social Housing

As a social landlord, you are continually faced with the challenge of providing and maintaining quality homes and services at affordable rents whilst reacting to legislative changes that impact on the sector.

To help you achieve these objectives, our highly experienced Housing Law department can assist Registered Providers, Local Authorities, Government departments, landlords and property managers with a range of contentious and non-contentious issues.

Our strength lies in working in partnership with you to ensure the most effective solution in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Our expert advice for social landlords covers:

Anti-Social Behaviour – As a social landlord, you can apply for injunctions against the perpetrators of anti-social behaviour. If an injunction is then breached, you have the power to apply for a warrant for arrest.

Health and Safety – As a minimum, social landlords must comply with statutory Health and Safety requirements to protect their tenants. As far as possible, it’s important that you take measures to identify, manage, monitor and report related risks and prevent breaches of regulations.

Housing management – We can advise social landlords on enforcement proceedings, exemptions, policies and procedures and income recovery.

Shared ownership and leasehold issues – Our team has experience of advising social landlords on issues related to shared ownership schemes, such as maintenance, rent and subletting. We also deal with a range of leasehold issues, including s20 consultations.

In addition, we can liaise with our Construction, Commercial Property, Planning, and Employment teams to help tackle any specific issues you may have related to these areas of law.

We provide bespoke training for several clients and the team includes experienced Advocates who appear regularly in Court for their clients.

Training provision delivered by our experienced lawyers will help keep you up to date with the latest changes in legislation or upskill your team. This can be provided for a fixed cost or we can design bespoke sessions to meet your needs covering a wide range of topics, including:
