Steven Sprague

Consultant

I am a dual-qualified English Solicitor and Avvocato (Italian qualified solicitor). I’m resident in Buckles’ Milan office where I am also a partner in CastaldiPartners. I’ve been practising law in a number of international jurisdictions for around 30 years. In the energy sector, my experience ranges through all aspects of power generation, transmission, distribution and supply (including trading) and covers both traditionally generated power as well as power generated from renewable sources. In recent years, my practice has expanded to cover energy related derivative instruments as well.

I have significant experience of research and development of energy products, including equipment ancillary to the export of generation, automatic metering systems and new forms of energy production and storage. The experience comprises agreements between enterprises, agreements with some of the world’s most prestigious academic research institutions and with governments and international organisations.

In non-energy, my experience ranges through cross border mergers and acquisitions and direct foreign investment, whether by way of joint venture or stand-alone, the construction and maintenance of infrastructure and, generally, the internationalisation of enterprises and markets throughout the world, including in both developed and developing markets. I act for a mix of multinational groups and individual investors and promoters and have a particular interest in central and Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union.

I was a guest lecturer at the International Business School of Moscow and have recently undertaken teaching engagements in both Europe and Africa; I regularly speak on topics related to international business and legal regimes and I’m the author of several publications on energy and natural resources law and on investment in Russia.

I’m a CEDR accredited mediator.

I work in English, Italian, French, Spanish and some Russian.

When not assisting clients, I can be found showing visitors around the Museo del Vidrio y Cristal de Malaga, a decorative arts museum which I founded in 2009 in Malaga, Spain. It is based around one of Europe’s most important private glass collections.
