Paula Piquer Ruz
Senior Solicitor & Abogada
I joined Buckles in 2018 as a Senior Solicitor in our Family department. I’m a qualified Spanish Abogado and English Solicitor.
Practicing in the UK since 2009, I previously worked for a boutique firm in London specialising in cross-border family law matters. My experience in dealing with cases involving international aspects is highly valued. I assist clients with divorce and separation, pre and post nuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements and disputes, a wide range of financial claims, the full spectrum of private child law matters, including relocation, child abduction, registration and enforcement of foreign orders, and disputes concerning the choice of forum and jurisdiction. My dual qualification also allows me to advise on Spanish family law.
I have prepared expert reports and affidavits of law in both English and Spanish for foreign proceedings. I also contributed to the Spanish Chapter of the 2nd and 3rd Edition of the Family multi-jurisdictional guide and the International Relocation of Children Global Guide.
I am a member of the Barcelona BAR and its Family and International Law commissions, the Spanish Association of Family Lawyers (AEAFA), and Resolution. I am the Deputy Chair of the British Spanish Law Association (BSLA). I’m also a member of the Westminster and Holborn Law Society, being part of their International Committee. In February 2020, I was offered the opportunity to lead their newly established Forum for International Lawyers in London (FILL). The Forum aims to provide a platform for lawyers who are qualified in other jurisdictions, allowing us to share our experiences, recommendations and also to network with each other.
I frequently lecture on English and Spanish law and cross border matters at seminars and conferences. I’m fluent in English and Spanish and speak basic French.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading Scandinavian crime novels and travelling, particularly when there is the opportunity to interact with people local to the region I am visiting.
