When the UK officially left the EU on 31 December 2020, there was still much uncertainty as to how British nationals purchasing and owning properties in France would be affected....
I qualified as a Solicitor in July 2008 and joined Buckles in September 2016.
I’m a Senior Associate and specialise exclusively in employment law, working on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters primarily for businesses and high-level individuals, including reviewing and drafting contracts of employment, company policies and procedures. I also advise on unfair dismissal claims, discrimination claims, breach of contract claims, post termination restrictions, settlement agreements and Employment Tribunal processes.
Having had previous experience working in a HR role, I’ve gained a valuable understanding of the day-to-day issues faced by both employers and employees which enables me to empathise with my clients. I have also previously spent a number of years dealing solely with tribunal claims which has given me significant experience of the process involved.
I have a down-to-earth and proactive approach and focus on providing clear and concise advice.
I am a member of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA) and I’m based at our Peterborough office. I am also the Chair of the HR Forum of the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce.
When I’m not working, I enjoy snowboarding, going to gym, hiking through the countryside with my gorgeous dogs and, if this isn’t enough to occupy my time, I like to travel too!
Nicola is a Chambers UK 2022 ranked lawyer and a Legal 500 Rising Star. A Rising Star has been defined by Legal 500 as “…associates who make a material difference to the practice.”
The Council initially instructed Buckles to provide advice on an employment matter. Immediately Nicola came back with very clear and measured advice that provided the Council with confidence that all of the matters that had been presented were addressed and most importantly the response was in clear and understandable English. We didn’t need another army of lawyers to interpret the advice that we were given! Throughout the process Nicola has been very clear in her advice on the merits of a claim. She has been understanding of Senior Officers alternative commitments and has tried her best to give as much notice as possible, and provided ‘gentle’ nudges when needed, to ensure that we keep to prescribed deadlines. Nicola is a straight talker and knows how to interact with her clients. She is honest and extremely approachable. I would not hesitate to recommend Nicola to anyone who has an employment issue that needs to be addressed.Local Authority Client

Although you may say it's your job, I would like to thank you for your help and advice. It may not have been the outcome I would have hoped but I still have a job which I can do without worry until I am ready to hand in my notice which will probably be at the end of the year. Thank you once again
Please pass on my gratitude to Nicola for all her advice and sterling work.
