The impact of Care Home Fees (CHFs) on individuals is often overlooked in society. A resident of a Care Home with assets in excess of approximately £20,000 will have to pay for their own care. With limited exceptions, all homeowners will therefore have to meet any Care Home Fees in full without assistance from the Local Authority.
By changing a Will, a husband and wife can protect at least half the value of their assets from being swallowed up by Care Home Fees if the survivor needs care after the death of the first spouse. Instead of all the assets being left to the surviving spouse, a Trust Fund can be created.
